Do not connect the Fast Track C400 to your computer yet! The driver installer should be run first!

1. Download the latest Fast Track C400 driver for Mac OS X from the Avid driver download site and save it to your computer.

2. The file you are downloading is in "Disk Image" (extension "dmg") format.


If your Mac doesn't automatically launch the file and create a virtual drive on your desktop, locate the downloaded file (likely in your Downloads Folder) and double-click it. A finder window will open and show you the icons below:

3. If this is the first time you've installed a Fast Track C400 driver on your system, please skip to step 7 of this guide now. If a Fast Track C400 driver was previously installed on your system, it has to be removed before you can successfully install the new driver. Please double-click "M-Audio Fast Track C400 Uninstaller" and click Uninstall.


4. A message will inform you that "Following uninstalling, it will be necessary to restart." Click Proceed:

5. When prompted, enter your administrator name and password to continue with the driver removal.

6. Click Restart to complete the driver removal.

7. Double-click on the downloaded Disk Image (dmg) file. This will bring you back to the contents of the virtual drive and show you the same two icons (M-Audio Fast Track C400.pkg/Uninstall) displayed above.

8. Double-click the file named "M-Audio Fast Track C400.pkg". The driver installer will launch and a window will inform you that "This package will run a program to determine if the software can be installed." Click Continue.


9. Click Continue.


10. Carefully read the license agreement, then click Continue.


11. Click Agree to continue.


If prompted, select the hard drive you want to install the driver to. A green arrow will appear over the selected hard drive. Then click Continue.


12. Click Install on the following screen.


13. You will have to enter your Administrator name and password, then click OK.


14. A message will appear informing you that the computer needs to be restarted at the end of this installation. Click Continue Installation.


15. When the installer informs you that the installation was completed successfully, click Restart.


16. Don't connect the Fast Track C400 to your computer while it is shutting down. Wait until your computer is in the process of starting up, then you can connect to an available USB port on your computer. Alternatively, you can wait until the computer is fully started and connect the Fast Track C400 then.

IMPORTANT: Connect the Fast Track C400 directly to your computer! Do not use a USB hub or USB port on your Apple Keyboard or Monitor.

17. Because the Fast Track C400 is capable of sending ASCII key commands, the Keyboard Setup Assistant will appear first time you connect Fast Track C400 to your computer. Please close the window, and do not click "Continue."


18. Connect the output of your M-Audio Fast Track C400 to your speakers, mixer, or other amplification device so you can hear the output of the device.

Once you have completed the installation procedure above, a new "M-Audio Fast Track C400" icon is placed in System Preferences.


Click this icon to open the Fast Track C400 Control Panel. If you have completed both the software and hardware installation properly the Fast Track C400 Control Panel will open without errors and in the bottom left the status will indicate Hardware Connected.

Your Fast Track C400 is ready to be used as an Audio Interface for your computer and recording software. Please refer to your software's user guide for further information on configuring and recording with your software.
